As a Georgia Southern alumni chapter leader, you’ll have the opportunity to champion the Eagle Spirit by bringing the vibrant traditions and values of our university to your local community and organizing events that strengthen our alumni network’s continued success. Beyond fostering school pride, you’ll forge lifelong connections with fellow Eagles in your area, expanding your professional network and Georgia Southern family by connecting with alumni from diverse fields. This leadership role provides a platform to develop your organizational, communication, and event planning skills, enhancing your potential both professionally and personally.

Alumni Chapters

A Georgia Southern Alumni Chapter is a representative group of alumni in a geographic area with a formal structure as outlined below. Establishing and managing a chapter requires commitment from a team of local volunteers. Chapters will need to form a board of leadership volunteers that must complete a Memorandum of Understanding, submit an annual plan for events and have at least one leader represented at the biannual All chapter Leadership Meeting.

Chapter Roles

  • Chair – The lead volunteer within a chapters area and oversees sponsored activities while acting as a liaison between the Office of Alumni Relations and the chapter. Coordinate, promote, and attend chapter events and activities. (May designate someone to attend in their absence.) Required to meet with the Alumni Representative bi-monthly. Facilitate meetings of the coordinators in your area.
  • Vice Chair – This position serves as Chair-elect and will assist and learn all positions for future leadership roles within a chapters area concentrating on chaptersing and social events.
  • Eagle Outreach (Community Service) Chair – A volunteer within a chapters area concentrating on community outreach events and support including for Georgia Southern’s National Day of Service.
  • Events Chair – Concentrates on social events like Eagles After Hours, Family Days, etc.
  • Scholarship/Fundraising Chair – Works to develop avenues and events for fundraising events in support of student scholarships.
  • Student Engagement Chair – Works to connect alumni with students and the Student Alumni Association, as well as assists with recruitment efforts coordinated by the Office of Admissions.

*It is expected for all events to have a designated host representing the Chapter.

General Requirements for an Active Alumni Chapter:

  • Chapter Leadership (Chair & Vice Chair minimum)
  • Annual Plan of Events (minimum one per quarter)
  • Representation at Annual Leadership Summit (Required)
  • Annual Georgia Southern Giving Day Donation by Chapter Chairs and Committee Members (Required)
