Connect with the Georgia Southern LGBTQ+ Network
The LGBTQ+ Network is an organization created to support LGBTQ+ alumni of Georgia Southern University and those who support this community including faculty, staff, families, and community members. This network is intended to be a positive space to engage and build community for people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities through an intersectional and racial justice framework.
Acronyms can be location and culture based. To broadly name our communities, LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Queer) is used to give voice to the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities.
Core Values
Advocacy
We cultivate communities of LGBTQ+ alumni who advocate for and support equitable, inclusive LGBTQ+ communities within the Georgia Southern University alumni networks.
Celebration
We promote visibility of LGBTQ+ alumni of the Georgia Southern University communities and take pride in our culture.
Community
We create opportunities for LGBTQ+ alumni to build positive relationships with other alumni in and who support the LGBTQ+ community.
Education
We exchange information and resources, support ongoing education, and recognize the scholastic achievements of the LGBTQ+ community of Georgia Southern University.
Engagement
We create and promote opportunities for LGBTQ+ alumni to engage through events, initiatives, networking, and service
Leadership Council Positions
Chair
- Serve as the primary liaison to Georgia Southern University’s Alumni Association and university communities.
- Preside at all regular, special, and leadership council meetings.
- Develop strategic planning in collaboration with the Leadership Council, members of the LGBTQ+ Network, and Alumni Association.
- Appoint committees, as needed, in collaboration with the Leadership Council.
- Coordinate Leadership Council elections and transitions or elect another Leadership Council to coordinate processes.
- To hold one-on-one meetings with the Leadership Council on an as needed basis.
- Maintain records of all programs, initiatives, and meetings in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations.
Advocacy & Education Coordinator
- Coordinate educational workshops, programs, and initiatives to support the mission of the Alumni LGBTQ+ Network with the Office of Alumni Relations
- Maintain records of the LGBTQ+ history of the Georgia Southern University communities.
- To act in the capacity of the Chair in their absence.
- Serve as parliamentarian at all meetings, if needed.
- Oversee committee as needed.
Engagement Coordinator
- Develop networking and engagement opportunities for alumni members of the Alumni LGBTQ+ Network.
- Assist the Office of Alumni Relations with marketing and communication efforts.
- Support recruitment of new members of the Alumni LGBTQ+ Network.
- Oversee committee as needed.
Development Coordinator
- Assist the Office of Alumni Relations in fundraising to provide support for the organization and initiatives to support the mission of the Alumni LGBTQ+ Network
- Oversee committees as needed.
Student Support Coordinator
- Organize and promote efforts to recognize student achievements.
- Provide support for the Alumni Relations mentoring program in encouraging LGBTQ+ Network alumni involvement.
- Oversee committee as needed.
