Scholarships

The Georgia Southern University Alumni Association awards several scholarships to deserving students each year.

Applications for a scholarship are accepted October 1 through February 1 each year and you must apply through the My Scholarships link on your My Georgia Southern page. 

Scholarship applicants will receive notification in May if they have been chosen to receive the scholarship. Scholarship awards are applied during each Fall semester.

  • Georgia Southern University Alumni Association Scholarship
    Criteria: The applicant must be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or legal dependent of a graduate of Georgia Southern (or any of the school’s previous names). Must be a senior enrolled full-time at the time the award is given and must have spent his/her entire junior year at Georgia Southern. Academic record, demonstrated talents, personal character, relevant extra-curricular activities and motivating interests will be considered. 
  • Frank Hook Alumni Scholarship
    Criteria: The applicant must be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or legal dependent of a graduate of Georgia Southern (or any of the school’s previous names). Must be a senior enrolled full-time at the time the award is given and must have spent his/her entire junior year at Georgia Southern.
  • Atlanta Alumni Scholarship
    Criteria: Applicant must have a permanent residential address that is located in one of the following Atlanta area counties: Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton, Gwinnett or Rockdale. Students must be seniors or rising seniors at the time the scholarship is awarded and must have at least two full academic semesters remaining before graduating. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Captain Bill Winn Alumni Scholarship
    Criteria: The applicant must be the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter or legal dependent of a graduate of Georgia Southern (or any of the school’s previous names). Must be a senior enrolled full-time at the time the award is given and must have spent his/her entire junior year at Georgia Southern. Academic record, demonstrated talents, personal character, relevant extra-curricular activities and motivating interests will be considered.
  • Betty Treadway Cummings Alumni Scholarship
    Criteria: Applicants must be senior nursing students who have demonstrated financial need.
  • Black Alumni of Georgia Southern Scholarship
    Criteria: Be an actively enrolled student, a sophomore or junior level student in good academic standing. The recipient must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is renewable
  • The First 500 Scholarship 
    Criteria: Actively enrolled sophomores or juniors in good academic standing, having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. The recipients shall demonstrate financial need. The scholarship application shall include three letters of recommendation from reputable sources (i.e. church, school, community) that detail the applicant’s character and the reasons the source believes the applicant should receive the scholarship. The scholarship shall be renewable annually as long as the student is an undergraduate and maintains the above criteria. 
  • Susan Rebstock Williams Southern Women Scholarship
    Criteria: The scholarship shall be offered to students who are majoring in a STEM related field. 
  • Mark C. Clayton Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship
    Criteria: Must be a current or rising junior. Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0. Must demonstrate highest level of character and service. 
  • CSRA Alumni Scholarship
    Criteria: The applicant must have graduated from a high school in the CSRA region. Must be a sophomore-graduate student enrolled full-time at the time the award is given. 

Armstrong Campus Scholarships

The following scholarships will be awarded to students on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, Georgia.  

  • Armstrong Alumni Scholarships
    Criteria:  Armstrong Alumni Legacy Scholarships: recipients must be related by blood, marriage or adoption to an alumnus of any incarnation of the institution of higher learning known as Armstrong (Armstrong Junior College, Armstrong State College, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Armstrong State University). Nontraditional students (only students who did not immediately attend college following high school graduation or had an interruption in their academic career).
  • William W. Stokes Scholarship Fund
    Criteria:  Armstrong Alumni Legacy Scholarships: recipients must be related by blood, marriage or adoption to an alumnus of any incarnation of the institution of higher learning known as Armstrong (Armstrong Junior College, Armstrong State College, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Armstrong State University). Non – traditional students (only students who did not immediately attend college following high school graduation or had an interruption in their academic career).
  • Alfred Owens Scholarship
    Criteria: Must be a senior. Minimum GPA of 2.5, who are enrolled at least part-time, and have financial need.
